Al Gore Draws Fiery Parallel Between Trump Administration and Hitler’s Third Reich at Climate Event

Al Gore criticized the Trump administration at a San Francisco climate event, comparing its approach to truth and climate change to tactics used by Nazi Germany, urging action against misinformation.
Al Gore isn’t exactly known for pulling punches, and at a recent climate change event in San Francisco, he went all in, likening the Trump administration’s approach to truth to the tactics of Hitler’s Nazi Party.
Delivering the keynote at a science museum for the city’s Climate Week, Gore accused the Trump administration of, in his words, "trying to create their own preferred version of reality." He acknowledged the unique evil of Hitler’s regime, noting, "It was uniquely evil, full stop. I get it. But there are important lessons from the history of that emergent evil." You know things are about to get spicy when a former vice president starts referencing German philosophers at a climate event.
Gore invoked Theodor Adorno, quoting the idea that Nazi Germany’s downfall began with "the conversion of all questions of truth into questions of power." He argued that the Trump administration was treading dangerously close to this territory, "attacking the very heart of the distinction between true and false." The former VP clearly didn’t come to tiptoe around controversy—he came with a history book and a highlighter.
He then zeroed in on what he sees as the administration’s deeply flawed climate views: "They say the climate crisis is a hoax invented by the Chinese to destroy American manufacturing. They say coal is clean. They say wind turbines cause cancer. They say sea-level rise just creates more beachfront property." If sarcasm could power wind turbines, we’d be set for the next century.
Gore insisted that America’s so-called "democracy crisis" must be tackled before the climate crisis can be solved. The implication is clear: misinformation doesn’t just pollute the air – it pollutes democracy, too.
Of course, Gore isn’t the first to draw such dramatic historical comparisons. Throughout the 2024 presidential campaign, several of Trump’s political rivals and various liberal media outlets have invoked the specter of Hitler and other fascist leaders when discussing the former president.
Gore’s remarks add yet another log to the already blazing fire of political rhetoric surrounding climate change and the Trump administration’s legacy. Whether you agree or not, you can’t say the guy doesn’t know how to get people talking.

Al Gore really knows how to bring history class to a climate rally. I guess if the heat from climate change doesn’t get us, the heat from political comparisons just might. At this rate, we’ll need sunscreen for the rhetoric.
