American citizen charged with attempting to firebomb U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv, carrying Molotov cocktails and posting violent threats online.
In a shocking turn of events, 28-year-old American-German citizen Joseph Neumeyer faces serious charges after allegedly attempting to firebomb a U.S. Embassy branch office in Tel Aviv, Israel. Federal prosecutors revealed that Neumeyer, a Colorado resident, was apprehended last week outside the embassy with a backpack stuffed with Molotov cocktails—crude but dangerous incendiary devices. This brazen act, described by U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella, Jr. as an attempt to sow "chaos and destruction," has raised alarms about the vulnerability of diplomatic outposts.
Neumeyer’s actions weren’t spontaneous. On May 19, he posted chilling messages on Facebook, openly calling for violence against the embassy. One post declared, “Join me this afternoon in Tel Aviv we are burning down the U.S. embassy,” while others included vile threats against President Donald Trump, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and even obscure entities like the UK’s Atomic Energy Authority. These digital rants culminated in Neumeyer’s appearance outside the embassy, where he spat on a guard, hurled profanities, and fled, leaving behind his explosive-laden backpack. Thankfully, no one was injured, thanks to the swift response of the Israeli National Police and their bomb disposal team.
Deported to the U.S., Neumeyer appeared in a New York federal courtroom on Sunday, where he was ordered detained pending trial. Facing up to 20 years in prison, his case underscores the persistent threats to diplomatic security. FBI Assistant Director Steven Jensen emphasized, “The FBI and our partners will aggressively pursue those who attempt to harm U.S. citizens and interests abroad.” As this case unfolds, it raises critical questions about radicalization and the global reach of domestic extremism.

Neumeyer’s backpack of Molotov cocktails and unhinged Facebook rants read like a bad action movie script—except the stakes are real. What’s next, a villain twirling a mustache while threatening embassies? This case screams for a deeper look at how online echo chambers fuel real-world chaos.
