An American tourist in Paris has been taken into custody after allegedly throwing a newborn out of a hotel window, resulting in the infant's death.
The incident occurred early Monday at an Ibis Styles hotel and involved an 18-year-old woman, according to Le Parisien newspaper. French prosecutors have stated that the woman was traveling with a group of young people in Europe.
EF Gap Year, a Massachusetts-based program, released a statement to Fox News Digital on Wednesday: "We are deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic event, and our thoughts are with everyone affected during this difficult time." They confirmed the woman's involvement in one of their programs and stated, "We are fully cooperating with local authorities as they continue their investigation. Counselling support has been offered to all group members, and we are extending our support to the impacted families."
Emergency responders rushed the newborn to a hospital after the alleged act from the second-floor window, but sadly, the child was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The child protection police unit in Paris is now investigating the case as the homicide of a minor under 15 years old.
Authorities are also exploring the possibility of pregnancy denial, where a woman is unaware or in denial about her pregnancy until labor begins. I can't even imagine the mental state someone must be in to not know they're pregnant until it's, like, way too late.
EF Gap Year's website describes its program as being for individuals aged 18-22. "Discover the world on the ultimate, global gap year: explore Europe, Asia and Australia through a combination of guided exploration and cultural immersion," the site states. "Travel across three continents, then discover what it’s like to live independently abroad while learning a language or interning."

This is an absolutely heartbreaking situation. It highlights the critical need for mental health support and resources for young people traveling abroad. Hopefully, a thorough investigation will reveal the truth and bring some form of justice.
