Los Angeles Angels pitcher Ben Joyce discusses how faith shapes his baseball career, joining other athletes like C.J. Stroud and Stephen Curry in openly expressing Christian beliefs.

In a world where sports often showcase raw talent and relentless competition, faith has quietly taken its place as a cornerstone for many athletes. One of those athletes is Los Angeles Angels reliever Ben Joyce, who openly shares his Christian beliefs. Speaking to OutKick’s Trey Wallace, Joyce expressed his admiration for athletes from various sports who openly display their faith.

"Yeah, 100%. I think it’s been awesome," said Joyce.

Across professional leagues, faith has been a unifying thread. In the NFL, stars like the Houston Texans’ C.J. Stroud and Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker have been vocal about their praise for God. The NBA, too, boasts faithful champions like the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry, Orlando Magic’s Jonathan Isaac, and Denver Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr.

For Joyce, faith isn’t just a personal belief but a shared bond in the clubhouse. "The guys I’ve shared a clubhouse with, they all feel the same way, and we’ve done things from Bible studies to having chapel every Sunday," he explained.

He emphasized how this spiritual foundation helps him stay grounded amid the whirlwind of professional baseball. "You can get caught up in all the things in professional baseball, and it really just brings you back down to Earth and grounds me," he said.

The 24-year-old flamethrower has started the 2025 season strong, with three games under his belt and 2.2 innings pitched without allowing an earned run. But Joyce’s contributions go beyond the mound—he’s using his platform to inspire others to embrace their faith.

"It’s awesome that people are being more open about it, and at the end of the day, God is great, and everything that I do is to glorify Him. If I can have any type of platform to spread that, then that’s what I want to do," Joyce said.

As sports continue to evolve, it’s refreshing to see athletes like Ben Joyce remind us that the game isn’t just about winning and stats—it’s also about staying true to your values and lifting others up along the way.

I love how Ben Joyce is unapologetically embracing his faith in such a public way. It’s rare to see athletes talk about what grounds them beyond the game. Also, the idea of Bible studies and Sunday chapel in a clubhouse? That’s teamwork on a whole different level. You’ve got to admire his perspective about staying grounded—it’s easy to forget the human side of professional sports.
