Jodi Vance, a 20-year-old bodybuilding coach, died from a heart attack linked to dehydration during the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, highlighting fitness risks.

The bodybuilding world is mourning the loss of Jodi Vance, who passed away last Thursday in Columbus, Ohio, after suffering a fatal heart attack. She was just 20 years old.

Her family revealed on social media that the heart attack occurred due to complications from severe dehydration during the Arnold Sports Festival. In a heartfelt post on her Instagram page, they wrote, "Her heart stopped due to complications of severe dehydration. Despite all efforts by the hospital, they were unable to revive her." They added, "She was a beautiful person inside and out, and she will be missed every single day. This was sudden and unexpected. Please give her family time to process this loss in peace. If anyone takes anything from this, please put your health first."

Although Vance was at the Arnold Sports Festival, she was not competing on stage. Instead, she was there to assist as a coach for participants, according to TMZ Sports.

Vance’s coach, Justin Mihaly, spoke out in an Instagram video, shedding light on what he believes led to her tragic death. He claimed Vance had used "extremely hazardous substances" to enhance her physique ahead of the event, without his or her family’s knowledge or approval. "Jodi made a serious error," Mihaly said. "There is no reason that she should have been dehydrating." He also shared that he had consent from Vance’s mother, Jenny, to release the video explaining the circumstances.

In a move that might raise eyebrows, Mihaly added, "You are welcome to direct your blame towards me if that’s how you believe we can best honor Jodi." A bold statement, considering the delicate emotions surrounding such a loss.

Jodi Vance was no stranger to competition, recently securing third place in the 2024 NPC Battle of Texas in the Women’s Physique division. Her fitness journey was well-documented on her social media, where she inspired followers with motivational quotes and progress updates.

Her sudden passing serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers associated with extreme measures in the pursuit of fitness goals. It’s a heartbreaking loss for her family, friends, and the bodybuilding community.
