Caleb Williams Chooses Rivalry Over Bromance in NFL Quarterback Circles

Caleb Williams, the Chicago Bears' top draft pick and former Heisman Trophy winner, is making it crystal clear: he's not in the NFL to make new friends among his fellow quarterbacks. After a rookie season that was, let's just say, a mixed bag, Williams is doubling down on a rival-first approach as he gears up for his second season.

In a recent interview with Esquire, Williams didn't mince words about his intentions when it comes to camaraderie in the league. "Other quarterbacks are probably great guys," he admitted, but building friendships with them isn't on his agenda. His reasoning? Williams thinks the NFL has gotten a bit too "friendly" and he wants to keep that "competitive advantage" sharp.

The Bears, for their part, are coming off a 5-12 season that ended with the firing of head coach Matt Eberflus after a string of last-minute losses and a six-game losing streak. Thomas Brown briefly took over as interim head coach before Chicago landed Ben Johnson in January, hoping to inject some much-needed fresh energy.

Chicago's front office has been busy this offseason, snapping up key offensive linemen like Drew Dalman, Joe Thuney, and Jonah Jackson to give Williams better protection and, hopefully, more time to work his magic on the field.

Williams is clear about his goals for 2025: "The plan is to go win big." No sugarcoating there—he's not aiming for participation trophies.
