Chuck Todd pushes back hard on claims the media missed President Biden’s mental decline, blaming the Democratic Party instead and calling out non-journalists in the spotlight.

Chuck Todd is not here for what he calls the "stupid premise" that the media dropped the ball on President Joe Biden's mental decline. In a lively chat on Substack with former CNN commentator Chris Cillizza, the ex-NBC "Meet the Press" host insisted that the real issue wasn't a failure of journalism, but a failure of the Democratic Party itself.

Todd bristled at accusations that the press missed the story, saying those claims were just right-wing attempts to "stain the media." He did admit that some MSNBC and CNN commentators "absolutely carried water for Joe Biden," but argued they weren't true journalists—more like former strategists with pom-poms.

He pointed out that some actual journalists, like David Ignatius, openly questioned Biden running again as far back as October 2023. Todd even mentioned promoting Dean Phillips' campaign, which, he felt, made more sense than pretending everything was fine in Biden-world.

Comparing this situation to the media's infamous Iraq WMD blunder, Todd said, "This was not that failure." Instead, he blamed a mix of Democratic leaders—including Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Jill Biden, and Kamala Harris—for letting what he called a "disaster" unfold, all while the media took unnecessary heat.

On the always entertaining topic of cable news personalities, Todd doubled down: "There were water carriers, but they're not real journalists!" And he wasn't shy about calling out former Biden spokesperson Jen Psaki, reminding everyone that being a press secretary doesn't make you a reporter, no matter how many times you sit behind a news desk.

In a recent appearance on "Piers Morgan Uncensored," Todd conceded that the media was, at times, afraid to go hard on Biden's mental acuity because it might help Donald Trump. That led to what he called "subtle" coverage—think stories about Biden using the back staircase or skipping interviews, which weren't exactly the stuff of Woodward and Bernstein.

Todd acknowledged that the Democratic Party played a big role in shaping the narrative, but he also criticized "right-wing manufactured outrage" for pushing the idea that the media and Democrats were in cahoots. For Todd, the bottom line is clear: if there was a cover-up, it wasn't the media's to own.

Honestly, if Chuck Todd had a dollar for every time he had to remind people who the 'real journalists' are, he might just buy his own staircase—front and back. The Democrats and media pointing fingers at each other feels like a political version of hot potato, except nobody wants to be left holding the Biden question.
