Democratic Party faces criticism for losing its working-class roots as former supporters shift to Trump, sparking debate on the party's elitism and disconnect from everyday Americans.

The Democratic Party’s working-class roots are getting a serious reality check—according to CNN’s Scott Jennings, those famed ‘Clinton guys from the 90s’ are now flying the Trump flag.

On a recent CNN NewsNight panel, Jennings argued that the party’s voter base has done a complete 180 over the past generation. "All the Clinton guys you’re talking about – those working-class guys from the 90s – they’re all Trump guys now. And that also explains some of the evolution of the Republican platform," he said, painting a picture of political musical chairs that would make anyone’s head spin.

Liberal podcast host Chuck Rocha echoed the concerns, sharing his own journey as a non-college-educated, working-class dad who once had to visit payday lenders just to afford diapers. "That’s really hard. But that’s where the regular people are every day," Rocha said, urging Democrats to reconnect with the realities that everyday folks face.

Jennings doubled down, sharing how his own father—once a hardcore Clinton supporter and factory worker—was actually the first in his circle to see the Trump wave coming. "Of course, I told him he was full of it. And I was wrong, and he was right," Jennings admitted, which has to sting just a little at family dinners.

Fellow CNN commentator Shermichael Singleton didn’t hold back either, describing most Democrats in his circle as "corporate people" who are out of touch with the daily grind of regular Americans. Singleton’s take: the party’s elitist tilt is costing them big with the working class.

This isn’t just cable news posturing, either. After Trump’s win, Senator Bernie Sanders declared it was no surprise the working class walked away, given that the party had abandoned them first. Former Obama adviser David Axelrod wasn’t any gentler, saying Democrats often speak to working-class voters with "unspoken and unintended disdain," practically pushing them into the GOP’s open arms.

It’s a rough look for a party that once prided itself on being the home of the common man. As the 2024 election aftermath shakes out, it seems like the blue-collar blues continue—just not for the party you might expect.

You know it’s 2025 when the phrase ‘Clinton guys’ gets tossed around like a nostalgic band name and half of them are apparently at Trump rallies now. Maybe the DNC should start handing out hard hats and lunch pails again—at this rate, the only working-class thing left at their conventions will be the WiFi password!
