Congress pushes War Powers Resolution to block Trump’s unauthorized strikes on Iran, citing constitutional overreach.

WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump’s decision to authorize airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—has ignited a firestorm on Capitol Hill, with lawmakers from both parties crying foul over the lack of congressional approval. The strikes, announced via Trump’s Truth Social post on Saturday night, have prompted a bipartisan push for a War Powers Resolution to rein in what critics call an unconstitutional overreach.

Reps. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), co-sponsors of the resolution, led the charge. "This is not constitutional," Massie declared, arguing that Congress alone holds the power to declare war under Article I of the Constitution. Khanna echoed the sentiment, urging lawmakers to return to Washington immediately to vote on the resolution and prevent the U.S. from sliding into another Middle East conflict.

The War Powers Resolution, introduced amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, demands that Trump terminate unauthorized military actions against Iran without explicit congressional consent. It’s gained surprising traction, uniting unlikely allies like progressive 'Squad' members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar with conservative Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who insisted, "This is not our fight." By Tuesday, the bill boasted 27 co-sponsors, reflecting growing unease with U.S. involvement.

In the Senate, Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) introduced a parallel resolution, warning that the American public overwhelmingly opposes war with Iran. Kaine questioned Trump’s timing, noting Israel’s recent strikes had already set Iran’s nuclear program back years. "Horrible judgment," he said, vowing to push for a Senate vote.

Trump, undeterred, celebrated the strikes as a success, claiming all U.S. planes delivered a "full payload of BOMBS" and safely returned. "NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!" he proclaimed. But with Israel’s preemptive attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities fueling regional tensions, and Iran vowing to continue its uranium enrichment, the path to peace seems anything but clear.

Trump’s dropping bombs on Iran like it’s a reality show finale, but Congress is screaming, ‘Cut! Where’s our script?’ Why rush to war when Israel already hit the snooze button on Iran’s nukes? It’s like ordering takeout when the fridge is full—bad call, big bill.
