Davante Adams Thought Aaron Rodgers Was Just Being Dramatic About Jets Breakup—Turns Out, Not So Much

Davante Adams had a front-row seat to the end of Aaron Rodgers' brief and chaotic stint with the New York Jets, and he admits his first reaction was—well, that Rodgers was just being his usual, theatrical self.
Adams, who is no stranger to sharing the field (and apparently the golf course) with Rodgers, was one of the earliest to find out that both their runs in New York were over. Right after the Super Bowl, the Jets officially decided to part ways with Rodgers, ending a turbulent two-year experiment that fizzled out much faster than anyone expected—Rodgers lasted a whopping four plays as a Jet before suffering an Achilles injury. Not exactly the epic New York chapter you’d expect from a future Hall of Famer.
With new decision-makers Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey at the helm, it was clear the Jets were headed in a new direction. Rodgers, however, didn’t take the news lightly. On "The Pat McAfee Show," he described the final meeting with the Jets as deeply disrespectful, a sentiment he also vented to Adams after a round of golf in Vegas. Adams recounted, "He was just in such a bad mood after the meeting. He hit me up and was like, 'I'm not coming back, bro. This was horrible—they just disrespected me completely.'"
Adams admitted he initially thought Rodgers was blowing things out of proportion, but after hearing the details, he realized the breakup was as blunt and cold as it sounded. The Jets didn't sugarcoat it—they told Rodgers straight up that they were moving in another direction. Adams was shocked, saying he didn’t think anyone would be gutsy enough to deliver the message like that. From that moment on, Adams knew his own days in New York were numbered.
And sure enough, Adams was soon released, but he landed quickly on his feet with the Los Angeles Rams, who had just parted ways with Cooper Kupp. Adams inked a two-year contract with a team looking to reload.
Rodgers’ own account of the Jets meeting wasn’t any rosier. He said he even flew out to New York "on my own dime" for what he thought would be a meaningful conversation. Instead, it was a short and not-so-sweet encounter—Jets head coach Glenn allegedly cut right to the chase, asking, "So do you wanna play football?" before dropping the news that they were going in a different direction at quarterback. Rodgers confessed he wasn’t angry, just stunned by the lack of respect after all he’d put in.
As the NFL draft looms and quarterback vacancies are getting snapped up, Rodgers is still a free agent, though there’s a lot of buzz about Pittsburgh being his next stop. For now, the only certainty is that the Jets chapter is closed for both Rodgers and Adams—no drama required, just business as (un)usual in the NFL.

Honestly, the only thing more bruised than Rodgers’ Achilles after this saga might be his ego. The Jets didn’t just slam the door—they basically threw his luggage out after him. If breakups in the NFL were a reality show, this one would be a season finale.
