Thursday night could be a moment of pure joy for the Sanders family, as Shedeur Sanders is expected to hear his name called at the NFL Draft in Green Bay. Once a top contender alongside Cam Ward for the No. 1 pick, Shedeur’s draft stock has taken a hit recently, leading to uncertainty about whether he’ll even make it into the first round.
Leading up to the draft, Shedeur has faced a torrent of criticism from unnamed coaches, with one apparently calling his interview "one of the worst" and bluntly declaring, "He’s not that good." Not exactly the pep talk you want before the biggest job interview of your life.
These anonymous potshots stirred up a response from former NFL player Ryan Clark, who pointed out that Shedeur’s off-field record is spotless and that he’s led two university teams to resurgence. Clark questioned why Shedeur is getting slammed with so much personal negativity, especially when other quarterbacks with actual baggage have flown under the radar. He argued that if Shedeur falls in the draft for football reasons, so be it—but enough with the faceless character assassinations.
Shedeur’s father, the ever-outspoken Deion Sanders, reposted Clark’s message and wasn’t shy about joining the online skirmish. Deion also chimed in when a fan accused ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky of "turning into a hater" over his critique of Shedeur’s on-field performance, simply responding: "Yes he did! Wow." The Sanders family knows how to make social media as entertaining as the game itself.
Once tipped for the very top of the draft, Shedeur’s slide down the ranks has been tough to watch, especially after a stellar college career. Last season, he threw for 4,314 yards and 37 touchdowns, carrying the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record and a bowl game appearance. Over 50 college games, Shedeur racked up a jaw-dropping 14,347 yards and 134 touchdowns. Not too shabby for someone supposedly "not that good."

It’s wild how NFL Draft season turns into an episode of 'America’s Next Top Quarterback,' complete with anonymous judges handing out snark. Maybe next year they’ll just give out roses. But really—if Shedeur Sanders’ biggest crime is outshining his critics, it makes you wonder who’s really getting drafted: the player or the rumor mill.
