Deion Sanders supports son Shedeur after a disappointing NFL Draft first round, sharing faith and motivation as Shedeur remains optimistic despite missing expected picks.
Deion Sanders, Colorado’s head football coach and one of the sport’s most recognizable faces, is standing by his son Shedeur Sanders after a tough night at the NFL Draft. Despite being predicted as a first-round pick, Shedeur’s name stayed on the board Thursday, leaving fans and pundits buzzing.
On Friday morning, Deion took to social media with a message for his son—and honestly, for anyone who’s ever had a plan fall apart on national TV. Quoting scripture, he wrote, "My bible says God uses the foolish things to confound the wise & he chose the weak things of the world that he may put to shame the strong." Then came the fatherly wisdom: "Please know God ain't done & God is just really getting started. Enjoy this lesson & stop stressing." If anyone can turn a missed draft pick into a motivational poster, it’s Coach Prime.
Shedeur entered draft week with his name circling some big teams. The New York Giants and the New Orleans Saints were both rumored spots with picks in the top ten. When neither called his name—nor did the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 21—it was a pretty public letdown for the young quarterback.
Still, Shedeur kept his chin up. Speaking to a crowd of supporters after the first round, he said, "We all didn't expect this, of course, but I feel like, with God, anything possible, everything possible. I don't feel like this happened for no reason. All of this is, of course, fuel to the fire... We on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow's the day. We going to be happy regardless. Legendary." Now that’s the kind of optimism only a quarterback (or maybe a Sanders) can muster after a night like that.
It hasn’t been all support, though. In the lead-up to the draft, Shedeur faced some harsh critiques. One longtime NFL assistant coach told NFL Network that Shedeur’s interview was "the worst formal interview I’ve ever been in in my life," adding criticisms about his attitude, timing, and play on the field. As if draft night wasn’t stressful enough, right?
The draft picks back up Friday at 7 p.m. ET. Still plenty of time for a plot twist—because if there’s one thing about the NFL Draft, it’s never short on drama.

Honestly, if Deion Sanders ever gets tired of coaching, he could open a motivational speaking business. He’s got enough inspirational quotes to fill a stadium—or at least an NFL draft green room. As for Shedeur, if this is fuel to the fire, the next team to pick him better have a fire extinguisher handy. Legendary, indeed.
