New Jersey Democratic Representative LaMonica McIver faces federal charges for allegedly assaulting federal agents at an immigration detention center, yet she’s turning the incident into a fundraising pitch. The Department of Justice announced charges on Tuesday, accusing McIver of "assaulting, impeding, and interfering" with law enforcement at Delaney Hall, a Newark-area facility. McIver, joined by two other congressional members and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, claimed the visit was part of their oversight duties. Baraka was briefly arrested but later had his charges dropped.

Bodycam footage, cited in the charging documents, shows McIver allegedly slamming her forearm into a uniformed immigration official and attempting to block Baraka’s arrest by pushing and striking an ICE officer.
