Florida Democrat Josh Weil faces backlash over past social media posts supporting gender transition care for children, fueling controversy as early voting begins in a heated congressional race.

A Democratic congressional candidate in Florida, Josh Weil, is under fire for past social media posts advocating for gender transition treatments for children. Critics have labeled his stance as "radical gender ideology," sparking a heated debate just as early voting begins for the April 1 election.

Weil, who is running in Florida's 6th Congressional District, had previously tweeted, "Banning health care for any human being is a violation of human rights." He added, "#TransRightsAreHumanRights and while we're at it #MedicareForAll so that all trans children have free, and safe access to the medical services they need." The post was a response to news in 2021 that Arkansas had become the first state to ban healthcare treatments for transgender youth.

In another resurfaced tweet, Weil criticized a proposed Iowa bill that would require teachers to notify parents seven days in advance if they planned to ask students about their preferred pronouns. Weil wrote, "In addition to all the harm this will do to trans and enby youth, this bill will 100% result in a loss of teachers." He pointed out a trend of educators leaving states where lawmakers impose burdensome policies on schools.

Republicans have seized on these posts to paint Weil as out of touch with voters. NRCC Spokeswoman Maureen O’Toole commented, "Democrats have learned absolutely nothing. Not only are they lighting donor money on fire in a district they can't win, but they’re backing a candidate pushing radical gender ideology wildly unpopular with voters. Josh Weil is so dangerous, even AOC and David Hogg are running from him."

Weil, a public school teacher from Orlando, is facing Republican State Senator Randy Fine in the race to replace former GOP Representative Michael Waltz. Waltz left Congress to join the Trump administration as a national security adviser. Despite the criticism, Weil has not publicly responded to the backlash, and his campaign declined to comment when contacted by Fox News Digital.

Early voting for this contentious race is already underway, and the outcome will certainly be one to watch.

It’s fascinating how the debate over trans rights and healthcare access has become such a political flashpoint. The resurfaced tweets certainly add fuel to an already tense race, but let’s be real—calling someone 'so dangerous' for supporting trans healthcare feels like a stretch. It’s like throwing a flamethrower at a candle and calling it a forest fire. The voters will have the final say on whether Weil’s stance resonates or repels.
