The FBI's arrest of Wisconsin Judge Hannah Dugan sparks outrage among Democrats, highlighting shifting views on 'no one is above the law' amid escalating political tensions.

The arrest of Wisconsin Judge Hannah Dugan by the FBI has set off a firestorm among Democratic lawmakers who have repeatedly used the phrase "no one is above the law" when addressing Donald Trump’s legal troubles. Now, with one of their own in handcuffs, some Democrats are warning the move could threaten the very fabric of American justice.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota called Dugan’s arrest "not normal" and a "drastic move that threatens the rule of law." Klobuchar argued the administration was undermining the system of checks and balances, which is a pretty quick pivot from her previous stance during Trump’s impeachment, where she insisted no one—including the president—should be shielded from accountability.

Back in 2022, Klobuchar was adamant: "The law is king, and the former president isn’t." Funny how fast the crowning ceremony changes when the gavel points the other way.

Sen. Tina Smith, also of Minnesota, blasted the arrest as a "blatant power grab" and challenged Republicans, asking how this wasn’t a red line. Smith, who once cited her oath to uphold the law as the reason for voting against Trump, now seems to think that same law is being twisted for political ends.

Rep. Gwen Moore from Dugan’s own county took aim at the administration, accusing it of weaponizing federal law enforcement. Moore said she’d follow the case closely but was "very alarmed" by what she called lawless actions from the Trump administration and ICE, arguing the agencies have disregarded the Constitution.

California Rep. Ro Khanna weighed in too, referencing a deleted tweet from FBI Director Kash Patel and blaming Trump and his allies for hurling the country into a constitutional crisis. Khanna, who has previously stressed that "everyone is under the law," now finds himself worried about the judiciary being under attack.

Wisconsin Rep. Mark Pocan echoed these concerns, saying Dugan’s arrest is "outrageous" and likening it to tactics used in "Third World countries." He made a point to differentiate between Dugan’s case and Trump’s, accusing the former president of thinking he’s above the law and pushing the limits of constitutional norms through reckless deportations.

It’s clear the chorus of "no one is above the law" sounds a bit off-key when the legal spotlight swings in a new direction. Democrats who previously called for tough accountability now argue that arresting a sitting judge is a dangerous overreach, leaving the public to wonder whether the rule of law is truly blind—or just easily distracted.

Is it just me, or does 'no one is above the law' have a whole different ring when the handcuffs land on someone from your own team? Watching politicians do legal gymnastics is the only Olympic sport America can still win gold in. At this rate, the next debate stage should really just be a courtroom.
