DHS warns protesters after anti-ICE demonstrator disrupts arrest in NYC, with 23 detained in chaotic Manhattan protest.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a stern warning to protesters after a chaotic incident in New York City on Wednesday, where an individual attempted to disrupt a federal immigration arrest. ICE agents were conducting operations in the lobby of a federal immigration court when a demonstrator allegedly tried to interfere physically, prompting a swift response from the Federal Protective Service (FPS).
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told WTFNewsRoom that the individual was detained, issued a U.S. district court violation notice, and released. 'Obstructing law enforcement comes with consequences,' McLaughlin emphasized, signaling zero tolerance for such actions.
Later that evening, the situation escalated in Manhattan when nearly two dozen anti-ICE protesters were detained by the NYPD outside a DHS building. The group, described as a 'disorderly' crowd of 20-30, blocked traffic and ignored repeated orders to disperse. The NYPD reported that 23 individuals were taken into custody, with 18 receiving summonses and five facing criminal charges.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons highlighted a disturbing trend, noting a 400% surge in assaults on ICE officers compared to last year. He pointed to inflammatory political rhetoric as a contributing factor, urging leaders to temper their words.
This clash underscores the heated divide over immigration enforcement, with tensions boiling over into public confrontations. As protests grow bolder, authorities are doubling down on maintaining order, raising questions about how far dissent can go before crossing legal lines.

Looks like NYC’s streets are hotter than a summer subway platform! These protesters thought they could play bumper cars with ICE, but the NYPD said, 'Not on our watch!' Meanwhile, Lyons is out here saying politicians’ spicy rhetoric is like throwing hot sauce on an already fiery situation. Maybe it’s time for everyone to cool it—unless they’re auditioning for the next season of 'Cops.'
