Arizona Diamondbacks ban season-ticket holder Dave McCaskill for repeated fan interference at Chase Field, sparking debate over fan conduct.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have swung the ban hammer on one of their most devoted fans, season-ticket holder Dave McCaskill, after he repeatedly crossed the line—quite literally—at Chase Field. Known for his Advantage Membership perks, including early postseason ticket access and ballpark discounts, McCaskill’s enthusiasm for snagging baseballs has landed him in hot water.
In the latest incident, McCaskill reached for a ball hit by San Francisco Giants’ third baseman Christian Koss, narrowly missing the glove of left fielder Tim Tawa. Center fielder Alek Thomas wasn’t amused, exchanging words with McCaskill, who tossed the ball back to the field. After a review, Koss was awarded a double, and McCaskill was shown the exit. The Diamondbacks, fed up with his antics, banned him for the rest of 2025 and terminated his membership, though they left the door open for a 2026 return if he abides by their Fan Code of Conduct.
Social media has been abuzz with videos of McCaskill’s previous attempts to catch borderline home run balls, with some reports suggesting he’s been involved in up to five such incidents. “I’m a D-Backs fan. I’d never want to hurt the team,” McCaskill told local media, admitting to being ejected “technically… twice.” He argued the ball he caught would’ve cleared the wall, but rules are clear: fans can’t reach over the imaginary line above the wall to snag a ball.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo kept it simple: “I want plays to be made by the players.” McCaskill, who says he’s inspired by notorious ballhawk Zack Hample—famous for catching over 10,000 baseballs—may need to rethink his game plan if he wants back in the stands.

Dave McCaskill’s ball-snatching saga at Chase Field is like a fly ball that keeps landing in the stands—trouble every time! Maybe he’s chasing Zack Hample’s record, but the only thing he’s catching now is a season-long timeout. Here’s a tip, Dave: leave the glove at home and grab a hot dog instead!
