Christy Carlson Romano shares shocking details of a near-fatal shooting accident that almost cost her an eye during a birthday outing.

Former Disney star Christy Carlson Romano has opened up about a harrowing incident that nearly cost her an eye. Four months ago, while celebrating her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday with a clay pigeon shooting outing, Romano was struck by birdshot, sustaining injuries in five places, including a dangerously close call below her eye.

In a candid interview on the upcoming June 10 episode of the 'Not a Damn Chance!' podcast, Romano shared the terrifying details. She described the incident as an accident, caused by another party within a 200-foot range, emphasizing that there was no malice involved. "It’s what happened," she stated, choosing to withhold specific details but highlighting the sheer shock of the moment.

Romano’s initial reaction was surreal. "I’m shocked, and what goes through my head immediately is, ‘Oh that’s dope, I just got shot.’ And then I go, ‘Oh now I’m gonna die,’" she recalled. Despite the severity, her training from the FOX reality series 'Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test' kicked in, prompting her to give a thumbs-up to signal she was okay, even as blood streamed down her face.

Her husband, witnessing the ordeal, rushed to her side, battling the urge to confront the other party while focusing on getting her help. Romano faced a flood of fears in those critical moments—about her life, her two young daughters, and her career. "If my head would’ve been tilted in any other direction, I would have been blind in my right eye, or worse," she revealed. Fragments of the shot remain in her forehead and behind her eye, just a millimeter from causing permanent blindness, as doctors deemed removal too risky.

Reflecting on the aftermath, Romano admitted to masking her fear with humor at the hospital to ease those around her. Yet, the label of 'gunshot survivor' weighs heavy on her. Her story serves as a stark reminder of the importance of gun safety, even in seemingly harmless recreational activities like clay pigeon shooting.

Well, talk about a birthday party with a bang! Christy Carlson Romano’s story is a wild reminder that even clay pigeons can bite back. I mean, getting shot in the face and still giving a thumbs-up? That’s some next-level Disney princess grit. But seriously, if this doesn’t scream ‘wear your safety goggles,’ I don’t know what does. Maybe next time, they’ll celebrate with a piñata instead of pellets!
