DNC Chair Ken Martin slams Vice Chair David Hogg in leaked audio, exposing party infighting as Hogg faces potential ouster over progressive reform push.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is embroiled in a heated internal conflict, with Vice Chair David Hogg, a 25-year-old progressive activist, at the center of the storm. A leaked audio from a May 15 Zoom call revealed DNC Chair Ken Martin expressing deep frustration with Hogg, accusing him of undermining his leadership. "You’ve essentially destroyed any chance I have to show the leadership I need," Martin said, highlighting the strain caused by Hogg’s actions.

Hogg, a survivor of the 2018 Parkland shooting, has been pushing for reform through his group, Leaders We Deserve, which plans to spend $20 million to back younger, progressive candidates against incumbent Democrats in safe districts. This strategy has sparked tensions, with party leaders like Martin and Vice Chair Malcolm Kenyatta accusing Hogg of leaking the audio to Politico, a move Kenyatta called a betrayal of integrity. "He proves he has no relationship with integrity if he’s willing to record and leak private conversations," Kenyatta stated.

The DNC is now holding an electronic vote to potentially nullify Hogg’s February election as vice chair, citing a violation of gender-balance rules. Hogg, however, claims this is a targeted effort to oust him for his reformist agenda. In response, he pointed to external threats, like Trump’s nationalization of California’s National Guard, urging Democrats to unite. "Republicans want us turning on each other," Hogg said on X, neither confirming nor denying the leak allegations.

Party officers, including Associate Chair Stuart Applebaum and Vice Chair Artie Blanco, rallied behind Martin, emphasizing the need to focus on fighting Republicans rather than internal squabbles. "Infighting is a waste of time when Donald Trump and the Republican Congress are taking healthcare and food away from millions," Blanco said. The controversy raises questions about trust and unity within the DNC as it navigates a post-2024 election landscape.

Well, folks, the DNC’s Zoom call turned into a soap opera faster than you can say 'leaked audio.' David Hogg’s out here playing chess with a $20 million war chest, while Ken Martin’s just trying to keep the board from flipping. Here’s a joke: Why did the DNC meeting get so heated? Because Hogg brought a megaphone to a whisper party! Seriously, though, this infighting is like watching your favorite team fumble the ball on the one-yard line—Trump’s probably popping popcorn, loving the show.
