DNC Faces Turmoil as Vice Chair David Hogg Threatens Party Neutrality

The Democratic National Committee is in full damage-control mode as a major internal clash threatens to shake up how the party runs its primaries.

Ken Martin, the newly elected DNC chair, is spelling out—loud and clear—that the DNC must remain neutral in primary races. In a Thursday conference call with reporters, Martin declared, "No DNC officer should ever attempt to influence the outcome of a primary election, whether on behalf of an incumbent or a challenger." Now, if only everyone could stick to the script.

This warning shot was aimed directly at David Hogg, the DNC’s vice chair, who recently vowed to pour a hefty $20 million from his outside political group, Leaders We Deserve, into challenging some of the party’s more seasoned incumbents in deep-blue districts. You have to admit, it's not every day you see a vice chair trying to shake up the old guard with that kind of cash.

Meanwhile, the rest of Washington is busier than ever. Former President Trump is making headlines after telling Putin to "STOP" following deadly Russian strikes in Kyiv, and he's also gearing up to celebrate his first 100 days with a rally—because apparently, time flies when you’re the main character.

Elsewhere, a trans inmate is suing the Trump administration over alleged assaults in prison, India is vowing to hunt down terrorists after a deadly attack in Kashmir, and the GOP is floating a millionaire tax hike—much to the surprise of, well, millionaires everywhere.

On the international front, tensions are running high as Putin eyes an African naval base, and a weakened Hezbollah in Lebanon is sparking fresh talk of peace with Israel. Back home, Harvard’s massive endowment is once again in the spotlight, raising eyebrows as the university continues to receive hundreds of millions in federal funding each year.

And as if things weren’t wild enough, Chicago residents are giving a resounding "no chance" to the idea of a Pritzker presidential run, while Alex Soros is publicly feuding with a left-wing climate group over its focus on Palestine. There's never a dull moment when politics is in session.

Editor's Comments

Honestly, you know it’s a good day in politics when the DNC’s biggest headache isn’t the Republicans—it’s their own vice chair threatening to turn the primaries into a generational cage match. If David Hogg keeps this up, the next DNC meeting might need popcorn and a referee. Democracy or drama club? Sometimes, I can’t tell the difference.
