Elon Musk, the tech titan known for shaking up industries, has voiced sharp disappointment over President Donald Trump’s massive spending bill, passed by House Republicans with a razor-thin 215-214 vote. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, as it’s called, promises to extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, eliminate taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security, and slash $1.5 trillion in government spending. Yet, Musk argues it’s a step backward, ballooning the already staggering $36 trillion national debt and undermining the efficiency drive of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which he recently stepped away from leading.

In a candid CBS Sunday Morning interview, Musk didn’t mince words: “This bill increases the deficit, plain and simple. It’s not just failing to cut waste—it’s actively working against what DOGE is trying to achieve.” His frustration highlights a rift with Trump, who championed the legislation as a fulfillment of campaign pledges. The bill’s passage wasn’t without drama: all Democrats, plus two Republicans—Reps. Thomas Massie and Warren Davidson—voted against it, while Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris opted for a neutral “present.”

Now, the bill faces a tough road in the Senate, where leaders aim to get it to Trump’s desk by the Fourth of July.
