European countries warn transgender travelers about new U.S. policies under Trump's executive order, highlighting risks and complications with passports and gender identity at U.S. borders.

European nations, including Finland, Denmark, the U.K., and Germany, are cautioning transgender citizens about traveling to the United States following President Donald Trump's executive order enforcing a strict two-gender policy across federal institutions. The new travel advisories highlight potential complications for transgender individuals navigating U.S. immigration requirements and passport policies.

The Danish government’s advisory highlights that the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), used for visa-free travel to the U.S., only offers two gender options—male and female. It suggests travelers with non-binary or updated gender markers in their passports contact the U.S. Embassy beforehand for guidance. Finland's updated advisory warns that discrepancies between passport gender markers and birth-assigned sex could result in visa denial.

Germany’s advisory, while not explicitly naming the U.S., warns LGBTQ travelers about challenges in entering countries where passport information may conflict with gender identity. This advice seems particularly relevant in light of recent U.S. policies.

President Trump’s executive order, signed in January, asserts a binary view of gender based solely on biological characteristics determined at conception. The policy impacts healthcare, education, military service, and federal documentation, aligning government practices with this definition. The move has sparked legal challenges, including a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of seven transgender Americans.

The administration has also faced backlash for its aggressive immigration crackdown, which includes mass deportation programs. Judicial opposition has added hurdles to Trump’s broader agenda.

European governments are urging their citizens to exercise caution and thoroughly prepare for travel to the U.S. under these evolving policies. Fox News Digital has reached out to the U.S. State Department and the White House for comment.

This feels like a throwback to a time before inclusivity was even a conversation. The idea of defining gender strictly by birth-assigned sex in travel documentation seems like a bureaucratic nightmare for transgender travelers and a blatant disregard for their identity. It’s almost like the administration is trying to rewrite biology textbooks with executive orders. I get that countries want to advise citizens, but this shouldn’t even be necessary in 2025!
