Brief
Former ESPN anchor Ashley Brewer Kaminsky recounts a memorable incident with ESPN management over an old Instagram post, sparking discussion with fellow ex-anchor Sage Steele about their experiences.
Former ESPN broadcaster Ashley Brewer Kaminsky is making headlines again, but this time it’s not for her work behind the anchor desk. Brewer Kaminsky recently opened up about an awkward run-in with her boss at ESPN, all because of a picture she posted on Instagram years ago.
She took to X (formerly Twitter) to swap stories with fellow ex-ESPN anchor Sage Steele. The conversation started after Steele commented on the latest allegations and civil lawsuit involving Shannon Sharpe, but quickly turned into a trip down memory lane about their own ESPN experiences.
Brewer Kaminsky shared that she "never forget[s]" being called out by her boss for posting a photo with a Republican congressman and a UFC fighter at a McGregor fight. According to her, this innocent upload landed her in hot water. That’s one way to spice up your social feed!
Steele chimed in by posting a throwback of the two anchors together on the "SportsCenter" set, reminiscing about another time they got in trouble — this time, for supposedly breaking Covid rules by standing too close to each other for a photo. Brewer Kaminsky responded with a bit of classic anchor wit, pointing out the irony that sitting shoulder-to-shoulder on live TV was apparently perfectly acceptable.
Before her ESPN days, Brewer Kaminsky was a swimming standout in Arizona, later competing for the Texas Longhorns and transferring to USC. She even aimed for the Olympic swim team before making her move into broadcasting. Her path took her from local stations in Arizona and California to ESPN in 2020, though she was part of the network's layoffs in 2023.
On the personal side, she married former NBA player Frank Kaminsky in 2023. Frank had his own moment in the sports spotlight, starring at Wisconsin and getting picked ninth overall in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets. His most recent NBA stint was with the Houston Rockets for the 2022-23 season.

If ESPN bosses are so nervous about Instagram photos, maybe they should issue anchors a manual: 'How to Take a Selfie Without Causing a Scandal.' And honestly, the logic of getting scolded for standing too close in a pic, while literally sitting next to each other on live TV? That’s the kind of plot twist even soap operas wouldn’t dare write.
