Ex-NFL Star Slams College Athlete Pay as Supreme Court Ruling Looms

A seismic shift looms over college sports as the Supreme Court nears a decision on House v. NCAA, a case that could greenlight revenue sharing between Division I schools and student-athletes. If approved, this settlement would fundamentally alter the landscape, moving away from the traditional 'amateurism' that has long defined the NCAA.

Since 2021, the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) system has allowed athletes to profit from their personal brands, but direct payments from universities would take things to a new level. Critics argue this could erode the core of college sports, prioritizing profit over education.

The debate has even reached the White House. Reports suggest President Donald Trump is eyeing an executive order to regulate NIL deals, following discussions with coaching legend Nick Saban. As the ruling looms, the future of college sports hangs in the balance.
