Fetterman Faces Democratic Fire but Gains GOP Support, Gallego Defends

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman finds himself in a political storm, caught between Democratic Party tensions and unexpected Republican support. Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego stood by Fetterman, emphasizing the need for roomunionized space within the Democratic caucus. Speaking in Pennsylvania, Gallego said, "There needs to be space for Fetterman and other senators in our caucus. He fights for working-class people, even if we don’t always agree."

Fetterman, who won his seat in 2022 despite a stroke during his campaign, has faced criticism from progressive Democrats over his pro-Israel stance and willingness to work with President Donald Trump. Reports of erratic behavior, following his 2023 treatment for depression at Walter Reed, have fueled whispers among Democrats, with some former staffers alleging concerning conduct. Yet, Republican senators like Dave McCormick and Tom Cotton have rallied to his defense, praising his authenticity and principles. McCormick called the attacks "vicious," while Cotton labeled them "dishonest" efforts by the radical left.

Media observer Joe Concha called the leaks a "blatantly coordinated" smear, pointing to a Politico report showing Fetterman’s popularity dipping below 50% among Pittsburgh Democrats. Gallego, however, warned that Republicans are defending Fetterman to pull him further right, likening their tactics to Marine Corps mind games. He urged Democrats to stay united and fight Trump’s agenda through legal battles, emphasizing faith in the Constitution.
