Foreigner’s Kelly Hansen announces departure after 20 years, passing the mic to Luis Maldonado following the band’s summer tour.

The iconic rock band Foreigner is ushering in a new era as lead singer Kelly Hansen announced his departure after two decades of electrifying performances. Following a show-stopping appearance on The Voice finale, Hansen revealed to fans that this summer’s tour will be his last with the band. "After 20 magical years, it’s time to pass the mic," he declared, introducing Luis Maldonado as his successor.

Hansen, who joined Foreigner in 2005, leaves behind a legacy of soulful vocals and high-energy shows. His tenure breathed fresh life into classics like Cold as Ice and I Want to Know What Love Is. "Being the voice of Foreigner has been one of the greatest honors of my life," Hansen shared, expressing confidence in Maldonado’s ability to carry the torch. Maldonado, already a guitarist in the band, has proven his vocal prowess during recent South American performances.

Founding member Mick Jones, the sole original member still with Foreigner, reflected on the band’s evolution. "Kelly Hansen is one of the best frontmen in the business," Jones said, praising Hansen’s role in revitalizing the band. He’s equally optimistic about Maldonado, noting, "Luis will lead the charge to new heights." Foreigner, formed in 1976 in New York City, has navigated decades of triumphs and challenges, from chart-topping hits to personal losses, including the passing of members Ed Gagliardi and Ian McDonald to cancer, and health struggles for Lou Gramm and Jones himself.

As Foreigner prepares for its next chapter, the band’s enduring spirit remains. With Maldonado at the helm, fans can expect the same heart-pounding energy that’s defined Foreigner for nearly 50 years.

Kelly Hansen passing the mic feels like a rock ‘n’ roll relay race—except instead of a baton, it’s a legacy of epic anthems! Luis Maldonado’s got big shoes to fill, but with pipes like his, he might just make ‘I Want to Know What Love Is’ sound like a fresh first date. Here’s to Foreigner rocking on, even if Mick Jones is probably wondering if Parkinson’s is the only thing slowing down this ‘Hot Blooded’ crew!
