Former NFL Star Greg Hardy Arrested in Texas for Alleged Family Assault

Former NFL defensive end Greg Hardy found himself in hot water again on Wednesday, arrested in Texas for allegedly assaulting a family member. According to jail records, the incident led to his detention by the Richardson Police Department around 2 p.m. local time, facing a charge of assault causing bodily injury to a family member. As of now, Hardy remains in custody.

The 36-year-old, a 6th-round pick from Ole Miss in the 2010 NFL Draft, had a notable yet controversial career, primarily with the Carolina Panthers. Over five seasons, he racked up an impressive 34 sacks and 203 tackles. However, his time with the Panthers was marred by legal issues, including being placed on the commissioner’s exempt list in 2014 amid a domestic violence case. Though initially convicted, the charges were dismissed when the victim failed to appear for a second trial.

Hardy’s career took another hit after signing with the Dallas Cowboys in 2015 as a free agent. A four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy limited his play to just 12 games that season, and the Cowboys opted not to re-sign him. After exiting the NFL, Hardy pivoted to MMA, making his debut in 2018, but his past continues to shadow his every move.

This latest arrest adds another chapter to a troubling pattern for the former athlete. It’s a stark reminder that talent on the field doesn’t always translate to triumph off it.
