Brief
President Trump and Congressional Republicans see record-high approval ratings in a new Fox News poll, while Democrats and administration officials like JD Vance and Elon Musk face sharp declines.
President Donald Trump is riding high two months into his second term, with his approval ratings reaching their all-time peak. According to the latest Fox News Poll, the same surge in popularity extends to Congressional Republicans, while Democrats face a troubling drop in public approval.
Trump’s job approval now stands at 49%, matching his highest rating from April 2020. This marks a significant improvement from the 43% approval he garnered during the same point in his first term. Notably, he’s seeing strong support among women, Black voters, and those under 30. That’s a pretty eclectic fan club for someone as polarizing as Trump, don’t you think?
Republicans overwhelmingly back Trump, with nine in 10 giving him the thumbs-up. Meanwhile, the same proportion of Democrats disapprove of his performance, and six in 10 Independents are also not on board. Overall, 51% of voters disapprove of Trump, including a hefty 45% who strongly disapprove. The love-him-or-hate-him divide is alive and well.
The data also reveals a growing concern about Trump’s reliance on executive orders—more than 90 in just 60 days. About 70% of voters worry these actions could permanently upset the nation’s system of checks and balances. Interestingly, this level of concern mirrors sentiment during Barack Obama’s presidency in 2014, proving once again that power moves from the Oval Office are a bipartisan anxiety trigger.
Congressional Republicans are also enjoying a rare moment in the sun, with a record-high approval rating of 43%. While 55% still disapprove, this is a far cry from their 36-point negative rating in October 2023 and the rock-bottom 55-point deficit from a decade ago. The GOP surge seems to stem from party loyalty, with 88% of Republicans rallying behind their Congressional team. Democrats, on the other hand, are experiencing a loyalty crisis. Only 49% of Democratic voters approve of their party’s lawmakers, a sharp drop from 74% in 2023.
Things look especially grim for Congressional Democrats, who face a staggering 66% disapproval rating, with only 30% approving of their performance. This is dangerously close to their record low of 29% in 2013. The party’s internal struggles are neatly summed up by Daron Shaw, one of the pollsters: "Democrats are united in their dislike of Trump, but they’re not exactly thrilled with their own team, either." Ouch.
Vice President JD Vance isn’t faring much better. His job approval sits in negative territory at 45% approval versus 53% disapproval. Among Republicans, his support (85%) is slightly below that of Trump (92%) and Congressional Republicans (88%). Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is breaking even with 47% approval and disapproval, making him the only administration official to receive double-digit approval from Democrats, albeit a paltry 11%.
And let’s not forget Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). His approval rating is in the doghouse, with just 40% of voters approving versus 58% disapproving. Republicans are mostly in Musk’s corner at 78%, but Democrats overwhelmingly disapprove at 93%.
This Fox News poll, conducted from March 14-17, surveyed 994 registered voters through a mix of landline, cellphone, and online interviews. The margin of error? ±3 percentage points. So, while the numbers paint a stark picture, there’s always room for a little statistical wiggle.

Trump’s approval surge among groups like women and Black voters is eye-catching, considering the often contentious relationship he’s had with these demographics. It almost feels like political whiplash. Also, the Democrats’ internal disarray is a classic case of ‘friendly fire’—it’s hard to win the game when your own team can’t agree on the rules.
