Olympic star Gabby Thomas confronts heckler’s racial slurs at track event, sparking investigation and FanDuel ban.
Olympic gold medalist Gabby Thomas faced a disturbing incident at a recent Grand Slam Track event in Philadelphia, where a heckler shouted disparaging and racial comments at her. The man, posting videos on X, bragged about disrupting Thomas’ focus, claiming it helped him win a $1,000 FanDuel bet. His remarks included personal insults and inappropriate references to Thomas’ personal life, souring what should have been a celebration of her second-place finish in the 200-meter sprint and fourth in the 100-meter.
Thomas, ever the class act, responded on X, calling out the heckler’s behavior as he followed her around the track, harassing her while she engaged with fans, mostly children. “This grown man… shouting personal insults—anybody who enables him online is gross,” she wrote, later adding, “He’s just sick.” Despite the ugliness, Thomas kept her composure, even flashing a heart gesture after confronting the individual.
Grand Slam Track didn’t sit idly by. Their spokesperson, Callum Squires, announced a full investigation into the “reprehensible behavior,” promising action and stronger safeguards to prevent future incidents. FanDuel also stepped up, banning the bettor from their platform, stating, “Threatening or harassing athletes is unacceptable and has no place in sports.”
Through it all, Thomas shone brighter than the noise. She took to X to thank her supporters, saying, “Grateful beyond words for the love and support!! My supporters remind me why I keep showing up.” Her resilience and grace under pressure are a testament to why she’s not just a champion on the track but a role model off it.
