Georgia Republicans are preparing for a heated 2026 Senate race against Jon Ossoff, with Governor Brian Kemp seen as the likely frontrunner if he enters the contest.

Republicans in Georgia are gearing up for the 2026 Senate race, with notable names floating their potential bids to challenge Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff. But make no mistake—if Governor Brian Kemp throws his hat into the ring, the nomination is practically his for the taking. That much was made clear by GOP Representatives Rich McCormick and Mike Collins in conversations with Fox News Digital.

McCormick, who has seen strong voter turnout in his Atlanta suburban district, hinted at his own readiness to consider a Senate run. "We always consider everything," he said. "I'm a moneyball kind of guy." Collins expressed similar openness to the idea, but both men were quick to defer to Kemp's potential candidacy. "If Governor Kemp gets involved in that race, hands down, I'll support him," McCormick stated unequivocally.

Kemp hasn’t announced any decision yet. His advisor, Cody Hall, emphasized that the governor is focused on other responsibilities, including his leadership of the Republican Governors Association, but assured that Georgia Republicans are united in their aim to unseat Ossoff. Kemp himself acknowledged the need to make a decision soon, though he remains occupied with legislative work and other commitments.

The importance of the race cannot be overstated. Ossoff's seat is rated as a "Toss Up" by the Cook Political Report, and the GOP is ready to pour significant resources into reclaiming it. McCormick predicted the race could cost upwards of $500 million, underscoring its high stakes.

Yet, there’s another dynamic at play: Donald Trump's influence. While Kemp has weathered a strained relationship with Trump in the past, the former president’s sway over Georgia Republicans is undeniable. Collins speculated that if Kemp opts out, the nominee will likely align with Trump's choice, echoing the former president's previous endorsements in Georgia races.

For now, the GOP appears to be waiting on Kemp’s next move, while preparing for what promises to be an expensive and intensely competitive campaign. As McCormick aptly put it, "It's going to be a fight." Indeed, Georgia voters can expect a political showdown that will command national attention.

The GOP’s deference to Kemp here practically screams political royalty—if the governor chooses to run, it appears he’ll have a coronation rather than a nomination. But isn’t it fascinating how Trump’s shadow still looms large? Politics in Georgia seems like a soap opera where every plot twist revolves around who’s in whose good graces.
