GOP reps and AFP target key districts to extend Trump’s tax cuts, rallying voters to support the 2017 TCJA amid 2026 midterm battles.

Washington, D.C. - House Republicans, alongside the conservative advocacy group Americans for Prosperity (AFP), are hitting the ground running this Saturday, targeting key battleground districts to rally support for extending President Donald Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). This push is part of Trump’s much-touted "big, beautiful bill," a cornerstone of his economic agenda.

In a strategic move, GOP Representatives David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani of Arizona, Ashley Hinson of Iowa, Tom Barrett of Michigan, and Ryan Mackenzie of Pennsylvania will join AFP activists for door-knocking and phone banks. Their mission? To urge voters in these competitive districts to pressure Congress into preserving Trump’s tax cuts, which AFP claims are vital to shielding the middle class from "the largest tax hike in history."

Kent Strang, AFP’s Managing Director, emphasized the urgency: "Families and small businesses can’t afford to wait. Extending these tax cuts is about fueling growth and keeping the American Dream alive." AFP is backing this effort with a hefty $20 million "Protect Prosperity" campaign, one of the largest investments by any group to preserve the TCJA.

But it’s not all smooth sailing. House Republicans are grappling with how to fund Trump’s ambitious tax plan, which includes eliminating taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security. Some floated a controversial millionaire tax hike, which Trump briefly signaled he’d support, only for the idea to fizzle out when the House Ways and Means Committee released a 400-page bill this week—sans tax increase. Instead, AFP is pushing to offset costs by slashing what they call "Biden’s Green New Deal giveaways," a debate that’s heating up in the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Why the focus on Arizona, Iowa, Michigan, and Pennsylvania? These states house some of the most competitive congressional races heading into 2026. In Arizona, Schweikert and Ciscomani barely clinched their seats in tight races, while Michigan’s Barrett and Pennsylvania’s Mackenzie flipped their districts red in 2024—a victory Democrats are eager to reverse. Iowa’s Hinson faces a looming challenge from Democrat Kevin Techau, who’s already campaigning to unseat her.

As the 2026 midterms loom, this tax-cut crusade is as much about policy as it is about political survival. With AFP’s grassroots muscle and GOP firepower, the battle for America’s economic future is taking shape—one doorstep at a time.

So, the GOP and AFP are knocking on doors to save Trump’s tax cuts, but here’s the kicker: they’re dodging a millionaire tax hike faster than you can say ‘big, beautiful bill.’ Meanwhile, they’re eyeing Biden’s green energy funds like a kid spotting candy. Why not just tax tips on unicorn rides to balance the budget? In these swing districts, it’s less about policy and more about who can flip the most voters before 2026. Grab your popcorn—this tax tussle’s got more twists than a Pennsylvania pretzel.
