GOP Rep. Don Bacon slams Trump’s ‘dumb’ comments on Zelenskyy, urging stronger U.S. support for Ukraine against Russia’s escalating attacks.
President Donald Trump’s recent comments on the Russia-Ukraine war have sparked sharp criticism from within his own party, with Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) calling out the president’s remarks as "dumb". In a Truth Social post, Trump initially condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin, labeling him "absolutely CRAZY" for his aggressive actions in Ukraine. However, Trump quickly shifted gears, slamming Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for statements that, in Trump’s view, "cause problems."
Bacon, a vocal advocate for Ukraine, didn’t mince words. "The first half of Trump’s message was spot-on, but the rest is just misguided," he told WTFNewsRoom. "While Putin’s forces devastate Ukrainian cities, Trump’s focus on criticizing Zelenskyy undermines his credibility." Bacon emphasized that moral ambiguity in the face of Russia’s invasion is a misstep, especially as Putin escalates attacks, including a recent barrage of 355 drones and nine cruise missiles, as Zelenskyy reported on X.
Zelenskyy, addressing the relentless Russian assaults, stressed that only "strength" from global powers like the U.S. and Europe can halt Russia’s aggression and secure lasting peace. Bacon echoed this sentiment, urging the U.S. and its allies to "arm Ukraine to the teeth" and impose crippling sanctions on Russia, including seizing $300 billion in Russian assets abroad. "Peace talks aren’t working—Putin’s goal is domination, and he won’t stop unless he’s forced to," Bacon posted on X.
The White House has yet to respond to requests for comment, leaving Trump’s remarks to fuel further debate as the conflict intensifies.

Trump’s playing a risky game of verbal ping-pong, swatting at Zelenskyy while Putin’s lobbing drones like it’s an Olympic sport. Bacon’s right—calling out Putin is great, but bashing Ukraine’s leader mid-invasion is like yelling at the firefighter while your house burns. Maybe Trump’s Truth Social needs a ‘think twice’ button!
