GOP lawmakers advance bill to cut Biden-era energy programs, targeting climate funds and EPA rules while boosting gas exports.

Republican lawmakers are charging forward with a bold plan to dismantle key Biden-era energy initiatives, slicing through billions in climate-focused spending with surgical precision. On Tuesday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee greenlit portions of a GOP-backed bill targeting unspent funds from the Democrats’ 2022 climate law, a move that promises to reshape America’s energy landscape.

The legislation zeroes in on clean energy tax credits, particularly those fueling electric vehicles and renewables like solar and wind. It also fast-tracks liquified natural gas exports and allocates $2 billion to replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, signaling a pivot toward traditional energy priorities. Meanwhile, the bill takes aim at Environmental Protection Agency regulations, including emissions limits for vehicles starting in 2027, which Republicans argue stifle economic growth.

Democrats, however, are sounding the alarm. Rep. Scott Peters of California warned that the rollbacks favor 'outdated' sources like coal over affordable, homegrown renewables, potentially hiking energy costs for consumers. Critics also contend the bill’s relaxed permitting rules could let heavy polluters off the hook, compromising environmental protections.

This clash reflects deeper divides over America’s energy future. Republicans see it as a correction of overzealous climate policies, while Democrats view it as a reckless step backward. As the GOP pushes to align with President Trump’s agenda, the outcome of this budget battle will ripple across industries and households alike.

Looks like the GOP’s playing energy whack-a-mole, smacking down solar and wind to prop up gas and coal. Meanwhile, the planet’s thinking, ‘Can I get a timeout?’ Why not split the difference—keep the clean tech and drill smarter, not harder?
