Brief

House Republicans introduce bill to block China’s purchase of U.S. farmland, citing national security threats and aiming to protect American sovereignty.

In a bold move to safeguard American soil, House Republicans, led by Rep. Mary Miller of Illinois, are rolling out a companion bill to Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley’s Protecting Our Farms and Homes from China Act. This legislation isn’t just paperwork—it’s a direct stand against the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) creeping influence over U.S. farmland and real estate, a trend that’s got lawmakers and citizens alike on edge.

The numbers are stark: Chinese entities currently hold about 265,000 acres of American agricultural land, according to the USDA. That’s not just dirt; it’s a piece of our national security and food supply. Miller didn’t mince words, declaring that prized American land is not for sale to our enemies. She’s sounding the alarm on what she sees as an aggressive bid by the CCP to undermine U.S. sovereignty—one acre at a time.

The bill pulls no punches. It aims to ban Chinese corporations and CCP-affiliated individuals from buying or leasing U.S. agricultural land. On top of that, it slaps a two-year moratorium on their purchases of residential real estate, with the president able to extend that ban as needed. Non-compliance? Expect hefty fines—$100 per acre per day for farmland violations and $1,000 daily for residential breaches. Break the law, and you could face up to five years behind bars, or see your land forfeited and auctioned off.

This push dovetails with President Donald Trump’s newly unveiled National Farm Security Action Plan, a broader effort to shield America’s food systems from foreign exploitation. Hawley, echoing Miller’s urgency, called CCP ownership of U.S. land a direct threat to national interests, insisting that adversaries shouldn’t touch our vital resources.

With a dozen Republican co-sponsors backing Miller’s bill in the House and Hawley’s version already introduced in the Senate, this isn’t a lone cry in the wilderness. It’s a coordinated GOP effort to draw a hard line in the sand—or, more accurately, in the soil. The stakes couldn’t be higher: control over America’s farmland isn’t just about farming; it’s about who controls the future of our nation’s breadbasket.

Well, folks, it seems the CCP thought American farmland was the ultimate real estate deal—buy now, conquer later! But with Miller and Hawley playing hardball, China might just have to stick to growing pandas instead of plots. Honestly, if we’re auctioning off seized land, can we at least get a reality show out of it? ‘Extreme Farmland Makeover: Patriot Edition.’ I’d watch that!
