Republican Deddrick Wilmer challenges incumbent Al Green in Texas' 9th District race, focusing on unity, lower healthcare costs, flood protections, and attracting business, while contrasting leadership styles.

Exclusive: Deddrick Wilmer, the Republican challenger aiming to unseat longtime Democratic Congressman Al Green in Texas' 9th Congressional District, has opened up about his campaign goals and motivations in an interview with Fox News Digital. Wilmer, who brands himself as a "compassionate conservative," says he's laser-focused on solutions and unity—traits he believes differentiate him from the incumbent.

Referring to Green’s recent headline-grabbing removal from President Trump's speech to Congress, Wilmer remarked, "I wouldn’t have reacted that way." Instead, he emphasized the importance of addressing the needs of the district over national disputes, saying, "This is about the 9th District. Charity begins at home."

Wilmer outlined his priorities, which include lowering healthcare premiums, flood protections in Houston, reducing living costs, and attracting businesses to the district. According to him, the residents are ready for change, even though Green has served the district since 2005 and consistently won re-election by wide margins.

"I'm the future," Wilmer boldly declared, contrasting himself with Green, whom he acknowledged has served the community well but represents the past. Wilmer added philosophical depth to his pitch, posing questions like, "What is the meaning and purpose of life?" and reminding voters of the nation's founding principles: helping not just oneself but supporting the vulnerable.

Green has faced criticism for his disruptive actions during Trump’s speech, actions he defended as a stand against potential Medicaid cuts. "On questions of conscience," Green said, "you have to be willing to suffer the consequences." He underscored his belief that healthcare should be accessible in the world's wealthiest country.

Wilmer, meanwhile, struck an optimistic and patriotic tone, describing America as an "experiment" striving for excellence. "Together we will move Texas forward. Together we will move America forward," he said.

Fox News Digital reached out to Green's office for comment but has not received a response. With the race heating up, it’s clear that Wilmer is aiming to bring fresh energy and ideas to Texas' 9th District, while Green continues to stand firm in his convictions.

Deddrick Wilmer's campaign pitch is a cocktail of optimism and ambition—refreshing, but let's not overlook the uphill battle he faces against an incumbent with years of political dominance. Also, calling himself 'the future' is bold, but let’s hope voters don’t think he’s skipping the present!
