Indiana Fever Guard Sophie Cunningham Keeps It Real on Why She's Not Married Yet

Sophie Cunningham, the newly signed guard for the Indiana Fever, gave fans a candid glimpse into her personal life this week during a social media Q&A. While waiting for a delayed flight, the 28-year-old WNBA star tackled the much-asked question: why isn't she married yet?

In true Cunningham style, she responded with humor and a touch of self-deprecation. Posting a video of herself downing a drink courtside at the WNBA All-Star Game, she quipped, "I’ve received this question A LOT." She added, "I think it’s cause I’m a rat and an embarrassment to society. Also, this was all ice and doesn’t do my skills any justice. Drafted by the Phoenix Mercury in the second round of the 2019 WNBA Draft, Cunningham quickly became one of the league’s fan favorites. Now, Cunningham is gearing up for a fresh chapter in Indiana. The Fever acquired her in a trade with Phoenix, along with a No. 19 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. During her media introduction on Tuesday, Cunningham expressed excitement about the move, saying, "I think it’s refreshing. I’ve been in Phoenix the last six years... I’ve had a really great time, but this is just a new style and this is the style that I thrive in."

She didn’t shy away from setting bold goals either, stating she believes she can help bring a championship to Indiana alongside her new teammate, WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark. "She has changed our game in the best possible way," Cunningham said. "To be alongside her and maybe relieve the pressure by spreading the court for her to do her thing—that’s what I’m looking forward to."
