The web page honoring Robinson's military service was mistakenly flagged and removed, sparking a media frenzy and accusations of political agendas.

The incident unfolded after DoD employees were tasked with identifying DEI-related material across thousands of documents as part of an effort to meet a tight deadline. According to officials, the seven-day timeline pushed employees to flag pages hastily, resulting in errors—including the removal of Robinson's tribute. Sean Parnell, Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, described the process as "arduous but incredibly important." However, critics argue that such sweeping measures may have been more reckless than thorough.

Media personalities wasted no time in calling out the blunder. ESPN's Jeff Passan labeled those responsible as "ghouls," while Mina Kimes claimed the move was an attempt to "erase" Robinson from history. Stephen A. Smith added fuel to the fire, rejecting the notion that this was an honest mistake.

Ullyot's controversial statement in the wake of the incident, claiming DEI initiatives "divide the force" and "erode unit cohesion," added fuel to the fire.
