Jamie Lee Curtis regrets plastic surgery after cruel comments, shares her addiction battle, and advocates against cosmetic trends.
Jamie Lee Curtis, the iconic actress known for her raw talent and unfiltered honesty, opened up about a decision that haunted her for decades: undergoing plastic surgery at 25 after a cinematographer’s cruel jab at her appearance. “Her eyes are baggy,” the cinematographer remarked during the filming of Perfect in 1985, shattering her confidence. Curtis shared on 60 Minutes, “As soon as the movie finished, I ended up having some plastic surgery. I regretted it immediately.”
That choice, spurred by a fleeting moment of insecurity, spiraled into a deeper struggle. The surgery led to a Vicodin addiction, a battle Curtis fought privately for years. “I became very enamored with the warm bath of an opiate,” she admitted, describing her dependency as a quiet, controlled descent. Her turning point came in 1999 after reading an Esquire essay that inspired her to attend her first recovery meeting. Now, 22 years sober, Curtis reflects with clarity: “I tried plastic surgery, and it didn’t work. It got me addicted to Vicodin.”
Curtis has since become a vocal advocate against cosmetic procedures, warning that fillers and filters are “wiping out generations of beauty.” In a 2021 Instagram post, she celebrated her sobriety, writing, “I was a young STAR at WAR with herself… With God’s grace, I’ve been able to stay sober, one day at a time, for 22 years.” Her message to women is unwavering: “You’re gorgeous, and you’re perfect the way you are.”
