Dave Navarro declares Jane's Addiction "forever destroyed" after Perry Farrell's onstage punch in Boston, ending their tour and future.
In a gut-punch to fans, Dave Navarro has declared Jane's Addiction "forever destroyed" after a shocking onstage brawl with frontman Perry Farrell last September in Boston. The altercation, which saw Farrell throw a punch at Navarro, brought their tour to a screeching halt and left the band’s future in tatters.
Navarro, speaking candidly to Guitar Player, described the incident as a devastating end to what had been a triumphant return. After battling long COVID for two years, he’d rejoined the band in May, and the group was hitting new highs, delivering some of their best performances ever. "We were gelling, really, for the first time," Navarro said, noting the absence of egos and the raw energy of their shows. But on September 13, it all unraveled when Farrell, frustrated by overpowering stage volume and struggling with tinnitus and a sore throat, lashed out during a concert.
Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell, later explained that her husband felt drowned out by the band’s sound, with fans complaining they couldn’t hear him. The tension boiled over when the band started a song before Farrell was ready, leading to his outburst. Bassist Eric Avery stepped in, reportedly putting Farrell in a headlock and landing punches to break up the fight, before apologizing to the crowd and ending the show.
The band canceled their tour days later, citing Farrell’s "continuing pattern of behavior" and mental health struggles. Farrell issued an apology, taking full accountability for his "inexcusable behavior." Navarro, however, sees no path forward. "There’s no chance for the band to ever play together again," he said, mourning the loss of the band’s potential to recapture their early magic.
This isn’t just a band breakup—it’s a reminder that even rock legends can’t always keep the stage from becoming a battleground.

Looks like Jane's Addiction turned their Boston gig into a literal 'Been Caught Stealing'—stealing their own future! When Perry threw that punch, he didn’t just hit Dave; he K.O.’d the band’s legacy. Maybe next time they’ll crank the volume on communication instead of chaos.
