Jessica Simpson finds freedom in Nashville, rediscovering music and resilience after Hollywood pressures and a personal split.
Jessica Simpson has rediscovered her voice and purpose in the heart of Nashville, leaving behind the relentless pressures of Hollywood. After a 15-year hiatus from music, the singer and actress has found solace in a city that embraces authenticity over competition, allowing her to reconnect with her creative roots.
During a recent interview on Today, Simpson shared how Nashville’s unique songwriting culture provided the perfect escape from the chaos of LA. "It’s hard for me to be myself in LA, where I’m juggling motherhood and running my brand," she explained. "But in Nashville, I can go within myself, find purpose, and just be honest."
At 45, Simpson is not only a proud mother of three but also a successful entrepreneur with her billion-dollar fashion brand. However, it’s her return to music that marks a powerful new chapter. Reflecting on her early days as a pop star, she noted how the industry often pitted her against others. "I took myself out of that competitive process," she said. "I wanted my music to be authentically me."
Her journey hasn’t been without personal challenges. Earlier this year, Simpson and her ex-husband, former NFL player Eric Johnson, decided to part ways after a decade of marriage. Through the pain of this transition, music became her refuge. "I needed emotional clarity," she admitted. "While making this record, my life completely changed, but I’ve found beauty in the pain."
As a mother, Simpson is determined to instill resilience in her children—Maxwell, Birdie, and Ace. "I want them to know that nothing can take us down as long as we stay true to who we are," she emphasized.
Looking ahead, Simpson isn’t closing the door on love. While confessing to being "slightly terrified" of dating again, she’s clear about what she seeks: someone unique, confident without ego, and, non-negotiably, a great kisser. Meanwhile, she celebrated a major milestone—the 20th anniversary of the Jessica Simpson Collection. Reflecting on her age with a laugh, she recalled her mother’s words at her 45th birthday: "You can start over again at 45. There’s no age limit to begin anew."
Simpson’s story is one of reinvention, proving that even after the spotlight dims, there’s always a stage waiting for a comeback—on her own terms.

Jessica Simpson swapping Hollywood’s glitz for Nashville’s grit is like trading a red carpet for a honky-tonk stage—raw, real, and refreshingly unscripted. But let’s be honest, if heartbreak and a good kisser are her new muses, her next album might just be titled ‘Lips and Lyrics.’ Here’s hoping Nashville keeps her singing, and maybe even line-dancing through the pain!
