Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Dodges Aaron Rodgers Drama With a Draft-Night Curveball

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn had the spotlight during his post-draft press conference, but not for the reason he’d hoped. Instead of basking in the glow of a fresh start with new general manager Darren Mougey, Glenn was pressed for a response to Aaron Rodgers’ recent claims that their final meeting left him feeling disrespected. Nothing like a little drama to crash your draft party.

When asked about Rodgers’ explosive comments, Glenn flashed a grin and smoothly pivoted, declaring, "[Armand] Membou is a really good player, and I’m so excited he’s a Jet." The room cracked up, with Mougey chiming in, "That was perfect," before steering the conversation back to football instead of feuds.

For those who missed it, Rodgers went on "The Pat McAfee Show" last week to voice his frustration over how things ended with the Jets. According to Rodgers, he flew cross-country expecting a serious conversation, but Glenn exited the room mid-chat and returned with Mougey. Rodgers said he barely had time to sit down before Glenn cut to the chase: "So do you wanna play football?" After Rodgers confirmed he did, Glenn shut the door on the reunion, saying the team was "going in a different direction at quarterback." Talk about a cold breakup.

Mougey, sticking to the playbook, sidestepped any drama and insisted the focus was on the draft and "current Jets players." That’s probably for the best, because the Jets need less tabloid and more touchdowns right now.

Turning the page, the Jets selected Armand Membou, an offensive tackle from Missouri, with their seventh overall pick. Membou didn’t allow a single sack in 12 starts last season—a stat that should make new quarterback Justin Fields sleep a little easier. If Membou can block drama as well as he protects quarterbacks, the Jets might finally have something to cheer about.

Editor's Comments

This whole situation feels like an episode of 'The Bachelor: Quarterback Edition.' Rodgers flies in for his big moment, and Glenn just hands him a rose... of rejection. Meanwhile, the Jets draft Armand Membou, who apparently blocks better than most of the front office blocks tough questions. If the Jets could protect their image as well as they hope Membou protects Fields, maybe next year’s draft presser will be drama-free (but where’s the fun in that?).
