Jets Part Ways with Davante Adams After Less Than One Season

The New York Jets are cutting ties with wide receiver Davante Adams, ending his stint with the team after less than a season. According to reports from ESPN on Tuesday, the Jets plan to release the three-time All-Pro player.

This news follows the team's earlier decision to part ways with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP. Adams and Rodgers, once a formidable duo in Green Bay, reunited briefly in New York after Adams was traded from the Las Vegas Raiders in October 2024.

Adams’ departure is expected to provide significant salary cap relief for the Jets. His current contract, inherited during the trade, was set to account for $38.3 million against the cap in 2025. Releasing him will free up over $29 million, though the team will still incur a manageable dead cap charge.

Despite the high hopes surrounding Adams' arrival, the Jets' performance remained lackluster. The team went 3-8 during his time on the roster, finishing the season with a disappointing 5-12 record. In 11 games with the Jets, Adams tallied 854 receiving yards—respectable, but far from the game-changing impact fans were hoping for.

Garrett Wilson is poised to become the Jets' top receiver once Adams is officially released. Wilson has consistently delivered, recording over 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three NFL seasons and setting a personal best with seven touchdown catches last year.
