House Speaker Mike Johnson pushes Trump’s budget bill, aiming for Memorial Day passage despite GOP resistance, promising tax relief and historic savings.

House Speaker Mike Johnson is racing against time to push President Donald Trump’s massive budget bill, dubbed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, through Congress by Memorial Day. Despite a recent GOP rebellion that stalled the 1,100-page legislation, Johnson remains steadfast, calling it a ‘once-in-a-generation’ chance to reshape America’s fiscal future.

The bill hit a snag Friday when five Republicans joined Democrats to block its advance in the House Budget Committee. Undeterred, Johnson announced a late-night session Sunday to revive the package, which promises historic tax relief, border security investments, and a bolstered defense industry. He emphasized making Trump’s 2017 tax cuts permanent, eliminating taxes on overtime and tips, and offering new tax breaks for seniors and job creators.

‘We’re working around the clock,’ Johnson said on Fox News Sunday, underscoring the bill’s role in delivering on the GOP’s election mandate. The legislation also aims to strengthen programs like Medicaid and SNAP for U.S. citizens while tightening eligibility to curb misuse. However, critics within his party, including Reps. Ralph Norman and Chip Roy, argue the bill doesn’t go far enough on spending cuts, particularly on immediate work requirements for Medicaid recipients.

Johnson acknowledged these concerns but highlighted the package’s unprecedented spending reductions, backed by nearly 500 conservative organizations. With no Democratic support expected, the stakes are high—if the bill fails, Johnson warns of the largest tax increase in U.S. history by 2026. ‘We cannot fail,’ he declared, vowing to bridge internal GOP divides and meet the aggressive deadline.

Mike Johnson’s herding cats in the GOP corral, trying to lasso Trump’s ‘big, beautiful bill’ before it bucks him off. Why the rush? Seems like Memorial Day’s less about barbecues and more about dodging a tax hike grenade. Here’s a joke: Why did the bill go to Congress? To get a tan on the House floor before it’s sent packing!
