Kansas basketball coach Bill Self hospitalized after concerning symptoms, undergoes heart procedure with stents, expected to recover fully soon.

Kansas men's basketball coach Bill Self, a titan on the court, found himself sidelined this week after experiencing some alarming health symptoms. The 62-year-old underwent a heart procedure on Thursday, where doctors inserted two stents to address the issue. Thankfully, the university reports that Self is in good spirits and anticipates a swift discharge from the hospital.

The procedure was a success, and a full recovery is on the horizon for the legendary coach. This isn’t the first time Self has faced a health challenge; back in 2023, chest tightness and balance issues forced him to miss the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments. At that time, a heart catheterization revealed blocked arteries, leading to a similar stent procedure.

Self has been a cornerstone of Kansas basketball since 2003, steering the Jayhawks to two national championships and an impressive streak of 14 consecutive Big 12 regular-season titles from 2004 to 2018. His induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017 is a testament to his enduring impact on the sport.

As fans and players alike rally behind him, the hope is for a speedy return to the sidelines for this coaching icon. Health comes first, even for a champion.

Well, looks like Bill Self’s heart decided to throw a full-court press on him! Jokes aside, it’s a relief to hear the procedure went well. But here’s a thought—maybe the real blocked artery is in the stress of coaching those nail-biter games. Let’s hope Kansas gives him a stress-free season to recover!
