Exciting news, space enthusiasts! Katy Perry is set to join Lauren Sanchez, Gayle King, and other amazing women on a Blue Origin space flight. Talk about reaching for the stars, literally! The all-female crew will include film producer Kerianne Flynn, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen. This mission, launching this spring, marks the 11th human flight for the New Shepard program and the 31st in its history, according to a press release. Blue Origin proudly states that they've flown 52 people above the Kármán line, which is the internationally recognized boundary of space. What's even cooler? This is the first all-female flight crew since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo spaceflight way back in 1963. Girl power! Gayle King shared her mixed feelings on "CBS Mornings," admitting she's both "so afraid" and "so excited." She was approached about the flight in November and, after some soul-searching with her kids and Oprah Winfrey, decided to take the leap. "I don't know how to explain being terrified and excited at the same time," she said, comparing it to the feeling of delivering a baby. King also expressed admiration for her fellow crew members, calling them "so bada--" with "such amazing life stories." You go, ladies! Fox News Digital reached out to reps for Perry and Sanchez. Blue Origin's press release quoted Katy as being "honored to be a part of Blue Origin's first all-female crew," hoping her journey inspires her daughter and others to "reach for the stars, literally and figuratively." Lauren Sanchez, who's been with Bezos since 2019 and engaged since May 2023, aims to inspire "the next generation of explorers." In an Instagram video, she expressed disbelief, saying, "If someone would have told me that I would be able to go to space one day, I would have definitely, well, I don't know, laughed. I can't believe it's happening." Perry and King follow in the footsteps of William Shatner, who traveled to space with Blue Origin in October 2021, becoming the oldest person to do so at the time. Shatner described his experience as profoundly moving, filled with grief for our beautiful, fragile world. Shatner shared, "When I landed and came out of the spaceship, I was overwhelmed by a feeling and I started to weep... I was in grief for this beautiful world that I could see more clearly from up in space… [We are] destroying it." "That was my overwhelming feeling of, ‘Oh, my God, what are we doing to this tiny rock?'" the actor added. Let's hope this trip gives everyone on board a new perspective on our planet!
