Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick discuss their efforts to shield their children from Hollywood fame, prioritizing a normal upbringing despite their celebrity status and unique career challenges.
Kevin Bacon and his wife Kyra Sedgwick have long been Hollywood icons, but when it came to raising their kids, they chose to shield them from the spotlight. Bacon, 66, revealed that his children didn’t sign up for the fame that comes with their parents’ careers, so the couple worked hard to protect them from it.
In a preview clip from Thursday's episode of "Last Meals," Bacon shared, "When it came to promoting my own fame and taking my kids to premieres and making them watch my movies and showing them an article in the paper…we really didn’t do that. We really avoided it. We knew how weird this life was."
He elaborated on the unique challenges of fame, saying, "There’s always a chance that you’re gonna walk out of the house and somebody is going to know who you are or look at you because of a piece of work you’ve done. It’s great—it’s what I always wanted—but it’s a weird way to live. 99% good, but a little weird."
Bacon and Sedgwick, who married in 1988 after meeting on the set of "Lemon Sky," have two adult children: Travis, 35, and Sosie, 33. Despite their parents’ fame, both children were largely kept out of the Hollywood limelight during their upbringing. Bacon explained, "That’s the thing. When it comes to fame, I’ve nobody to blame but myself. It was my thing. But for them, it’s something that’s thrust upon them."
He said he encouraged his kids to chart their own paths, adding, "I just felt like, let them figure out their own thing. So that’s the way we parented them. I keep telling them, ‘It had to have been hard for you. Please, tell me. I want to know. Sit with your therapist, it’s okay.' But they just will not go there. They will not acknowledge that it was anything difficult about having us as parents."
As adults, Travis and Sosie have occasionally stepped into the spotlight. The siblings posed with their parents on the red carpet for the "MaXXXine" premiere in June, where the family dazzled in their stylish outfits. Bacon sported a pale orange suit, Sedgwick wowed in a black leather mini dress, Travis matched in all-black, and Sosie opted for oversized attire with cowboy boots.
Travis also joined his parents at the premiere of "The Bondsman" in March. While the family appears comfortable on the red carpet now, it’s clear that Bacon and Sedgwick’s decision to shield their kids from the "weirdness" of fame during their formative years was intentional—and perhaps even a little ahead of its time.

It’s refreshing to see a Hollywood couple prioritize normalcy for their kids, especially in an industry where fame can be all-consuming. Bacon’s acknowledgment of fame’s ‘weirdness’ is hilariously spot-on—99% good, but that odd 1% is enough to make you rethink your life choices. Let’s be honest, though; keeping the kids grounded while you’re starring in 'Footloose' must’ve been a juggling act!
