Kim Jong Un mourns North Korean soldiers killed in Ukraine, highlighting the deepening North Korea-Russia alliance in a tearful ceremony.

In a rare display of emotion, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was seen visibly moved, placing a flag on the coffin of soldiers killed while fighting alongside Russian forces in Ukraine. The scene, broadcast on state-run Korean Central Television, unfolded during a cultural event at the East Pyongyang Grand Theater, marking the one-year anniversary of North Korea’s strategic partnership with Moscow.

Images showed Kim, joined by Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui, standing solemnly beside the casket, his hands pressed against it. The broadcast also featured photos of North Korean troops with Russian soldiers and a bloodstained notebook, reportedly found in Russia’s Kursk region, with a soldier’s message pledging loyalty to Kim and calling the conflict a “sacred battle.”

Russian Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova, present at the ceremony, was also seen wiping tears, as were others in the audience. Analysts suggest this public display is part of a crafted narrative to project strength and unity, despite the heavy losses reported in the ongoing conflict.

Kim Jong Un shedding tears over fallen soldiers? That’s a plot twist even M. Night Shyamalan couldn’t dream up. Between the bloodstained notebook and the 'sacred battle' rhetoric, it’s clear Pyongyang’s scripting a blockbuster to sell this alliance to the home crowd. Wonder if they’ll add a victory montage to gloss over the Kursk casualties—or maybe just blame it on a ‘failed launch’ like their destroyer.
