Brief

Kim Kardashian's 2016 Paris robbery case concludes with eight convictions, including ringleader Aomar Aït Khedache, as the star reflects on trauma and justice.

In a Paris courtroom, justice has caught up with the culprits behind the audacious 2016 robbery of Kim Kardashian, where $6 million in jewelry, including her $4 million engagement ring from Kanye West, was stolen. The ringleader, Aomar Aït Khedache, 69, along with seven others, faced convictions for their roles in the heist that shook the reality star’s world during Paris Fashion Week. The robbers, disguised as police, stormed the Hôtel de Pourtalès, bound Kardashian with zip ties, and left her in a bathtub, fearing for her life.

Kardashian, in a statement, expressed relief: "This was the most terrifying experience of my life, but I’m grateful to the French authorities for their pursuit of justice." She faced Khedache in court, where he offered a written apology, asking for "a thousand pardons." The SKIMS founder acknowledged his remorse but noted the lasting trauma: "My life was forever changed."

The court handed down sentences, with Khedache receiving eight years, five suspended, and others facing up to seven years, most suspended due to their ages—ranging into their 70s. No prison time will be served, factoring in pretrial detention and the nine-year gap since the crime. Two defendants were acquitted. A diamond-encrusted cross, dropped during the escape, remains the only recovered item.

Kardashian’s testimony was raw, recalling her certainty of death: "I screamed, ‘I have babies.’" Her courage in confronting the so-called "grandpa robbers" highlighted her resilience, as she continues advocating for a fairer justice system.

The 'grandpa robbers' pulled off a heist so bold it could’ve been a Hollywood script—too bad their getaway plan was slower than a Parisian traffic jam. Kim faced her fears in court, but I bet Khedache’s ‘thousand pardons’ letter won’t make her forget that bathtub moment. Here’s a thought: maybe next time, invest in a better hotel lock instead of a $4M ring?
