Kobe and Gianna Bryant mural in LA vandalized again days before riots, despite recent restoration funded by Luka Doncic.

A vibrant mural honoring NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna in downtown Los Angeles was defaced with white spray paint, marking the second vandalism of the artwork in just months. The piece, titled Mambas Forever, captures the heartfelt embrace of the late father and daughter, a tribute to their enduring legacy. This act of destruction comes mere days before riots erupted in the city, sparked by controversial immigration policies.

Located in the bustling Fashion District, the mural sits roughly 20 miles from Paramount, where unrest has gripped the streets. The artwork was lovingly restored on May 30 after an earlier defacement in April, thanks in part to a generous contribution from Lakers star Luka Doncic, who helped fund the GoFundMe campaign for its repair.

Artist Louise Palsino, who poured heart and soul into the restoration, celebrated its revival on Instagram, noting the outpouring of community support: “It’s great how a bad situation can bring so many people together to bring something back greater.” Yet, the fresh scars of vandalism raise questions about whether the mural will be restored again. No suspects have been identified in this latest incident.

Kobe Bryant, who dazzled fans for 20 years with the Los Angeles Lakers, and his daughter Gianna tragically died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas in January 2020. Their memory lives on through tributes like this mural, despite repeated attempts to tarnish it.

Vandals hitting Kobe’s mural again? That’s like dunking on a legacy and missing the rim entirely. While LA grapples with riots, this defacement feels like a cheap shot at a city’s heart. Wonder if the spray-paint culprits are just jealous they’ll never shine like the Black Mamba.
