Rioters clash with LAPD in downtown LA over ICE raids, smashing windows as National Guard is deployed amid political controversy.
Violence erupted in downtown Los Angeles over the weekend as rioters targeted the LAPD headquarters on West 1st Street, smashing windows and clashing with authorities during anti-ICE demonstrations. Tear gas was deployed by officials as the chaos unfolded on Sunday night, marking a sharp escalation in tensions over Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids.
In response to the unrest, President Donald Trump ordered 2,000 National Guard troops to the area on Friday, a move that has sparked heated debate. The Department of Homeland Security condemned the riots, accusing California politicians of siding with 'foreign criminals' while federal forces work to protect citizens.
The LAPD declared the gathering an 'unlawful assembly' as protesters refused to disperse, splintering across downtown LA. Disturbing footage captured agitators burning the American flag, setting vehicles ablaze, and hurling objects at police, intensifying the volatile atmosphere.
Political reactions have been sharply divided. California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the deployment of National Guard troops as an overreach, arguing that local law enforcement was equipped to handle the situation. He accused the administration of manufacturing chaos, stating, 'Trump sent troops to destabilize, and now we’re cleaning up his mess.' Newsom arrived in LA on Sunday to oversee the state’s response, emphasizing a commitment to peace over political games.
Meanwhile, some Democratic voices, like New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, have controversially labeled the riots as 'peaceful,' accusing the President of sowing discord with aggressive immigration policies. On the other side, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo defended the troop deployment as a 'common sense' measure to protect law enforcement and citizens, warning against a repeat of past unrest where local governments failed to act.
As the dust settles, the deeper divide over immigration enforcement and protest rights continues to tear at the fabric of our nation. This isn’t just about broken windows—it’s about broken trust between communities, leaders, and the systems meant to protect us.

Well, folks, LA’s downtown just turned into a real-life action movie, minus the hero. Windows smashed, flags burned, and politicians pointing fingers faster than a kid caught in a cookie jar. Here’s a thought: if Governor Newsom thinks local cops had this under control, maybe he’s been watching too many reruns of ‘Cops.’ And as for calling these riots ‘peaceful,’ I guess spitting on the flag is just the new handshake. How about we send in a negotiator with a megaphone and a sense of humor to calm things down? ‘Hey, rioters, let’s trade those Molotov cocktails for some mocktails!’ Immigration’s a tough nut to crack, but burning down your own backyard won’t solve it.
